Earlier this year, the Australian Tax Office updated its online security requirements for customers of software providers that connect with the ATO. Therefore it will be compulsory for anyone with access to an Australian organisation on Xero to have 2SA enabled. The same is true for other cloud-based platforms. Xero advises that “1 in 4 small businesses have experienced a cyber attack in 2017.” They also claim that “nearly all data breaches were due to compromised passwords”.
We recently wrote an article “Two Step Authentication is now mandatory in Xero for Subscribers and payroll admin users”.
This article has the instructions on how to set up Two Step Authentication.
Soon all Xero users will be required to set up Two Step Authentication and you will notice an opportunity to set this up when you log in to Xero. Please advise all the Xero users in your organisation of this requirement and the need to set up their access to Xero before they are logged out of Xero.
What you need to know
- 2SA is already compulsory for all AU payroll administrators and subscribers on Xero
- From Tuesday 16 October all remaining users will see a screen that prompts them to set up 2SA
- On a rolling basis, between Tuesday 30 October and Friday 23 November 2018: 2SA will become compulsory on their login
What you need to do
- advise all the Xero users in your organisation of this requirement and the need to set up their access to Xero.
